Our
Core Values are: Fun, Integrity,
Excellence, Diversity, Family, Teamwork, Respect & Love Founded in November 2005
by a group of experienced and enthusiastic community theatre veterans, the Houston Family Arts Center has quickly established
a quality reputation for itself in Northwest Houston. We produce original and established works for family audiences,
including drama, comedy, musical theatre, percussion, and dance while incorporating high artistic quality, moral excellence,
and cultural diversity.
We strive to inspire adults, children and youth by providing a safe and encouraging
environment that fosters respect, healthy personal growth, character development, and continued family involvement.
We are dedicated to building long-term relationships with our audiences through exceptional entertainment and education.
Help
us grow to meet your needs!
At
long last, after a whole semester of work, the Design students at the Art Institute of Houston have completed their projects
for HFAC’s building on Woodedge. Nine teams of students prepared detailed plans with everything from overall thematic
guidelines to surface finishes for the bathroom countertops. Although the decision was a tough one, the winning design team
of Carol Buck and Cindy Scott-McDowell wowed the selection team with their thoroughness, attention to detail, and a unique
“green” design focusing on environmentally safe products for our patrons and actors alike.
Our new design features a thrust stage! For those of you who haven’t taken Theatre 101, this means that the stage
sticks out into the audience, allowing for a far more intimate performance. The new theatre will seat 171
patrons and complies fully with Houston Fire Code and ADA requirements. It will also have a spacious office, a classroom for
workshops, and a Donor Wall where your name can be displayed as being a part of HFAC’s first building!
Having the new theatre will mean an expanded season for HFAC. We’ll be able to produce dramas, comedies, and
small musicals at Woodedge while we continue to mount large scale musicals at the Berry Center. This will also provide a home
for our workshops, rehearsals, and costume construction. The HFAC Building Committee hopes to tweak the
design a bit and complete the purchase of our building by the end of 2008. Actual construction will begin in 2009.
